Henry Bedford and Walt Disney: Seeing the Invisible

This week as I was in Orlando, FL driving past Disney World after a meeting with an executive from Disney, my coach, Henry Bedford CEO of the Southwestern Comany, reminded me of Walt Disney’s great success story.

It is humbling and inspiring to think of Walt’s passion and determination. He took his vision, paired it with a field of marsh land and swamp and created the happiest place on Earth. His dream transformed nothing into a land of fantasy and excitement that would end up becoming one of the largest entertainment companies of all time.

“All the adversity I’ve had in my life, all my troubles and obstacles, have strengthened me… You may not realize it when it happens, but a kick in the teeth may be the best thing in the world for you.” Walt Disney

“All your dreams can come true if you have the courage to pursue them.” Walt Disney

If you are one of the people being affected by this “recession” then I would humbly suggest trying to see the invisible.  Open your eyes to what does not yet exist!  It could be the best thing for you.

What would Walt say to someone in a slump during a “recession”?  I would guess he would say something’s like this…

“No one is going to bail you out.”

“If it is meant to be it is up to you.”

“There is more opportunity in a “recession” then ever… it’s up to you to just find it.”

“Start a new business.  Start a new project.  Start a new division.  Start something new.”

“Work harder, work smarter, and see if you can work for straight commission with no limits!”

“The sky is the limit when everyone else thinks it is falling.”

“Don’t watch the news.  Make your own reality.”

Wake up to the possibilities around us.  Unlimited potential surround us every where we go.  Innovation, creativity, and a sense of urgency will over come any obstacle.   Being aware of what we want and relentlessly focusing on our objectives will cause almost anything to become a reality.
